Fix for OpenGEM amd FreeDOS Beta 8 - Released 4-5-2003

There is a problem with the FreeDOS 8 distro. It's not very up-to-date, and some of the files included with it crash OpenGEM when you try to start it. To fix this problem please copy the file COMMAND.COM into the C:\ directory of the machine you wish to run OpenGEM on. This will overwrite your old COMMAND.COM file (FreeCOM version .83Beta44) with a new one (FreeCOM version .82PL2 with XMSswap). Yes, we know the version you have is .83, and the new one is .82. But .82 is actually much newer. Weird huh? FreeDOS programmers...

If this fix does not allow you to run OpenGEM you have another potential fix. You will find two archives as well as COMMAND.COM in this fix distribution. These contain files to update the Kernel and FreeCOM in FreeDOS. Please follow the instructions inside to bring your FreeDOS machine totally up to date.

Any damage done to your system by attempting these updates is your fault alone, and neither the FreeDOS community nor Shane Land nor the FreeGEM community can accept any liability.
